Regulatory and Sustainability Concerns for MEKO (methyl ethyl ketoxime) 

MEKO is commonly used in alkyd coating technology as an anti-skinning agent. It prevents the formation of a surface film on the product while it is stored in a sealed container.  

This skin could mix with the remaining paint, potentially impacting its quality and performance. Additionally, MEKO is known to act as an isocyanate blocking agent in polyurethane coatings and adhesives. 
 
Despite its effectiveness, MEKO has faced regulatory pressure in numerous countries due to its toxicity profile. As of November 2023, EU REACH has legally classified MEKO as Carcinogenic Category 1B.  

As a result, its usage is heavily restricted, including a ban on consumer and professional applications.
